YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Vocalist DOOGIE WHITE: "New Album Sounds Crisp And Powerful"
June 19, 2002YNGWIE MALMSTEEN singer Doogie White (ex-RAINBOW) recently commented on the recording sessions for the guitarist's upcoming Attack CD, which is currently being produced by Malmsteen and engineered by Tom Fletcher in Miami, Florida.
"I got the call from Yngwie's management on the Friday and flew to Florida ('The Sunshine State') the following Thursday — and it was raining," White recalled.
"As we had never worked in a recording capacity together, we met up over the weekend to listen to the tracks and discuss the best approach. We started work on the vocals on Monday. It seems that YJM normally does demos of the songs with the vocalist. This time he sang the songs to me and then I sang them and we listened to decided if that was the voice/tone we needed for the track. This kept the whole process fresh and alive --- and by God, it showed!"
"For the first song we did, Tom Fletcher (engineer/producer) set me up a killer headphone mix and an amazing vocal sound. Yngwie wanted power, aggression, passion, rawness and control. I sang it once and we listened. Everyone was smiling and we knew we had the sound and way of working. I went back in and re-sang it and that's pretty much how we did all the songs, in two takes. By the end of 16 days we had all the tracks finished."
"You want to know what they are like??? You are gonna have to wait to hear the album! Just to give you an idea: they are all hard-hitting, hard-rockin', high-energy rock tunes, that lovers of classic rock with thundering drums, classy keyboards, menacing bass, electrifying guitar and soaring vocals will swallow up."
"On a personal note, I am very pleased with my vocals on the album and both Yngwie and Tom were an absolute joy to work with. The songs are of a very high quality and anyone concerned about how it will sound need have no worries: Tom Fletcher is one of the best producer/engineers in the business, having worked with OZZY, WHITESNAKE, PAUL ROGERS, DON HENLEY, MADONNA, amongst many others. I heard the rough mixes and they sound so crisp and powerful."
